Plasma treatment of textile fibres

In cooperation with the Research Institute of Textile Chemistry and Textile Physics of the University of Innsbruck, relyon plasma GmbH has developed the plasmacell P300 with Piezo Radial Source designed especially for the plasma treatment of textile fibres, yard goods and continuous material.

The multi-function PlasmaCell P300 with built-in Piezo Radial Source

This system enables the application of our two well established technologies, Pulsed Atmospheric Arc (PAA®) and Piezoelectric Direct Discharge (PDD®), on endless substrates such as textile fibres.

The material can be fed into the process chamber by means of feed-throughs on either side (see fig. 2) where it can either be treated with the high performance plasmabrush PB3 system (PAA Technology®, see fig. 3) or the innovative Piezo Radial Source (PDD Technology®, see fig. 4).

The Piezo Radial Source consists of eight modules with highly efficient CeraPlas-HF® piezo transformers. This novel component is based on the PDD Technology® of the piezobrush PZ2 handheld device, which enables a plasma treatment at room temperature. Due to the modular design of the innovative overall system, it can be removed in one piece from the process chamber (see fig. 5). To achieve uniform treatment of various substrates, the eight individual modules are mounted in four levels and are individually adjustable with knurled screws (see fig. 6). Furthermore, due to the modular structure, both the number and the position of the Piezo Modules can be adapted to various different processes.

The plasmacell P300 with Piezo Radial Source, specially designed for the University of Innsbruck, has all the advantages of the proven stand-alone solution plasmacell P300, such as simple and intuitive operation as well as a compact and robust design. The custom-made Piezo Radial Source as a modular insert offers completely new possibilities in the uniform plasma treatment of continuous material with diameters up to 60 mm. For the plasmabrush PB3 plasma jet, the advantages of a 3D trajectory for machining any geometry remain, with the addition of the possibility of treating endless material with a diameter of up to 65 mm through the feed-throughs on the sides.
